Rewilding Report is an independent ecological journalism publication operated at rewildingreport.com. References to "we", "us", or "our" in this policy refer to Rewilding Report. For privacy enquiries, contact us at info@rewildingreport.com.

2. What Data We Collect

Information you provide directly

• Email address — when you subscribe to our newsletter
• Name and email address — when you contact us via our contact form
• Message content — when you submit a contact form or email us directly

Information collected automatically

• Log data — our hosting provider (SiteGround) may collect standard server log data including IP addresses, browser type, pages visited, and visit timestamps. This data is used for security and performance monitoring only.

Information we do not collect

We do not collect payment information, government identification, or sensitive personal data. We do not build advertising profiles on our visitors.

3. How We Use Your Data

• Newsletter email address — to send you our weekly rewilding digest and occasional updates about the site. We use a third-party email service provider (such as Beehiiv) to send newsletters. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.
• Contact form submissions — to respond to your enquiry. We do not add contact form submitters to our newsletter without explicit consent.
• Log data — for security monitoring, debugging, and understanding aggregate traffic patterns. We do not use log data to identify individual users.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

4. Cookies and Tracking

Rewilding Report uses minimal cookies. We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels. The cookies we set include:

• Session cookies — temporary cookies set by our hosting provider for security purposes. These expire when you close your browser.
• Newsletter preference cookies — if you dismiss a newsletter signup prompt, we may set a cookie to remember this preference for 30 days.

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or other third-party tracking tools. Third-party services we link to (such as Bookshop.org) may set their own cookies when you click through to their sites — their privacy policies govern that data.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services that may process your data:

• SiteGround — our web hosting provider. Processes server log data. Privacy policy
• Cloudflare — CDN and security services. May process IP addresses for DDoS protection. Privacy policy
• Beehiiv / newsletter provider — processes email addresses for newsletter delivery. Privacy policy
• Bookshop.org — affiliate partner. When you click through to Bookshop.org, their privacy policy applies. Privacy policy
• Unsplash — photography provider. Images are served directly from Unsplash's CDN. Privacy policy
• Google Fonts — font delivery. Google may log font requests. Privacy policy

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Correction — request correction of inaccurate data
• Deletion — request deletion of your personal data
• Objection — object to our processing of your data
• Portability — request your data in a portable format
• Unsubscribe — opt out of newsletter emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email

To exercise any of these rights, email info@rewildingreport.com with the subject line "Privacy Request." We will respond within 30 days.

7. Data Retention

• Newsletter email addresses — retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion
• Contact form submissions — retained for up to 12 months, then deleted
• Server log data — retained for up to 30 days by our hosting provider

8. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal data. Our site is served over HTTPS with SSL encryption. We use Cloudflare for DDoS protection and security monitoring. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children's Privacy

Rewilding Report is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected data from a child, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will note the date of the most recent update at the bottom of this page. Continued use of Rewilding Report after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. For significant changes, we will notify newsletter subscribers by email.
